About BillSaarthi — App Purpose
BillSaarthi is an Android point-of-sale (POS) and shop management application built for
small retail businesses in India — including kirana stores, pharmacies, garment shops,
hardware counters, supermarkets, and wholesale traders. The app replaces paper registers
and manual notebooks with a single digital system that works fully offline.
What BillSaarthi does
- Creates GST-compliant bills at the counter using barcode scan or voice search
- Tracks product inventory, stock levels, and generates reorder alerts
- Manages customer credit (udhar) balances and sends WhatsApp payment reminders
- Records supplier purchases and business expenses
- Generates business insights: daily revenue, profit, top products, and GSTR-1 summary
- Prints receipts on a Bluetooth thermal printer — all features work fully offline
Why BillSaarthi uses Google Drive access
BillSaarthi requests Google Drive access for one specific, optional purpose only:
to allow Pro subscribers to back up and restore their local shop database to their own
personal Google Drive account. This feature is entirely optional. All core billing,
inventory, and management features work without any Google account or internet connection.
- Backup: The app writes a single encrypted database backup file to a dedicated "BillSaarthi Backups" folder inside the user's own Google Drive.
- Restore: The app reads back that same backup file to recover shop data on a new or reset device.
- The app uses the drive.file OAuth scope — it can only access files it has created itself and cannot access any other files in the user's Drive.
- No other files in the user's Google Drive are ever read, modified, or deleted.
- Google sign-in is never required to use billing, inventory, udhar, or any other core feature.
Data privacy
- All billing records, customer data, and inventory are stored locally on the user's Android device in an on-device SQLite database.
- There is no mandatory server, no account registration, and no cloud sync.
- Google Drive backup is the only external data transfer, and it is user-initiated.
- BillSaarthi does not collect, share, sell, or use any Google Drive data for advertising or analytics.
- The Google Drive backup file is encrypted before upload.
